At the heart of business are the processes that define the results required to attain, or maintain, the competitive advantage.
When system implementations, upgrades or integrations are planned, a complete examination of the underlying business processes behind the systems should take place. In order to articulate the return on investment of the planned change, the benefits to the business need to be not only characterized, but looked at for further productivity improvements.
Business Processes can be "mapped" to give a visual understanding of the routes taken to complete tasks; this image can then be compared to logical alternative routes, and the organizations objectives.
When logical cost-saving paths are found, conscientious implementation and meticulous integration with stakeholders and information systems, should be instigated.
